Sport Performance Training

The objective of sport performance training is to help athletes in middle school, high school or college achieve their goal of excelling at their sport(s) of choice. At NX Level, we believe that an athlete's physical preparedness enhances his or her mental image which equates to improvement in their athletic performance.

The performance training offered at NX Level is the same approach used by owner/strength & conditioning coach Brad Arnett when he dealt with male and female athletes from all major sports at the University of Arizona and University of Minnesota.

In short, sport specific power is accomplished in an environment that is intense, informative and, at the same time, enjoyable for the athlete and the performance coach who works with them every step of the way. The purpose of a performance coach is to create an environment in which athletes can train, develop and self-monitor. In turn, this will improve the athlete’s self-confidence, training program and overall self image.

Active regeneration training is part of the sport performance training offered at NX Level. This training helps asist in injury prevention, quicker rehabilitation and recovery to ensure quality-based workouts for the athlete. Complete development of the athlete reduces the risk of injury dramatically.

Sport Specific Training Programs
Today, male and female athletes representing each of these sports currently train at the NX Level Performance Center:

We work with each athlete individually, discussing in depth with them their sport of choice and targeting areas that need to be monitored and improved. By doing so, we’re able to prepare a program that, over time, will enhance their sport performance.

Baseball Pitcher Training Example:
In preparing an athlete to play baseball (specifically as a pitcher), there are three variables in our training program that are extremely important:

  • Deceleration
  • Acceleration
  • Shoulder Integrity

A pitcher must be able to decelerate after releasing the ball toward home plate. Acceleration is that first step a base runner takes toward second after the pitcher’s move home or the hitter’s bat picking up speed as he/she takes a 2/0 curve ball off the right field fence. Sprint and acceleration mechanics up to 60 yards – coupled with rotary core and glute strength – will improve pitching efficiency, bat head speed and base running dramatically.

Also, a pitcher must train specific posterior shoulder musculature and core rotary strength in order to improve ball velocity. Remember, a baseball player’s shoulders are designed for mobility. To maintain shoulder integrity, you must constantly address the internal musculature of your shoulder and latisimuss mobility to avoid rotator cuff over-use and to maintain shoulder mobility.

For baseball players, we use full body lifts – such as Olympic variations, front and back squats, all angles of pressing with bars and dumbbells -- to enhance total body development, flexibility and conditioning.

At NX Level, we prepare similar programs for athletes in each of the other sports previously listed.  In fact, we've designed sport-specific programs for professional basketball and football players, as well as Olympic hopeful swimmers, who work with us in their off-season.
