Sports Accupuncture
Acupuncture is used in the treatment of injuries and musculoskeletal imbalances, and is often effective for relieving muscle pain and spasm and improving circulation to tense or injured tissues. Acupuncture is especially effective for tendon and ligament sprain/strains and chronic injuries which have not responded to other types of treatment. Acupuncture can decrease down-time from an injury and heal minor tissue damage. It works by decreasing swelling, bruising and muscle spasms, while improving blood supply to the affected area and increasing the range of motion.
Exercise, acupuncture, and massage are all seen as ways to balance the body and promote health and in the case of athletes, to improve performance. Athletes may indeed find an edge in these therapies and most people enjoy the feeling of pure relaxation, reduced anxiety, and improved mood as a result.
